Humhej, Klaiber Capture East Coast Conference Weekly Honors

WEST BABYLON, N.Y. – Sophomore Katie Humhej and freshman Breanna Klaiber continued their impressive 2018 campaigns last week and were recognized by the East Coast Conference as softball's Pitcher and Rookie of the Week April 30.

For Humhej, it is her third weekly recognition this season, while Klaiber captured her second accolade of her career.

The hard-throwing Canadian dominated in the circle last week, going 3-0 with 19.0 scoreless innings in three starts. Humhej allowed just 12 hits and surrendered only one walk while also striking out 23 hitters. In a win against Southern Connecticut State, she fanned 10 batters and eclipsed the 200-mark for her career in a win against the New York Institute of Technology.

The impressive rookie campaign for Klaiber continued as well as the Ohio native hit .632 (12-for-19) for the week over eight contests, including four multi-hit games. During the stretch, Klaiber smacked four doubles and drove in five runs, notching three hits apiece against Molloy, Southern Connecticut State and NYIT.

The duo will lead the Pioneers into the ECC Tournament this week as the Green and Gold seek its first conference title since 2014 when it opens play against the University of Bridgeport on Wednesday, May 2 at 3:00 p.m.
