Fortin, Seader and Humhej Voted D2CCA All-East Region

WESTLAKE, Ohio – The Division II Conference Commissioners Association recognized LIU Post softball sophomore outfielder Abbey Fortin, sophomore pitcher Katie Humhej, and junior catcher Julia Seader as a few of the top players in the East Region, naming them to the All-East Region teams as announced by the organization May 14.

A catalyst at the plate during the Pioneer postseason run, Fortin is hitting .524 since playoffs began on May 2, earning first-team recognition. During the seven-game stretch, the British Columbia native added 11 hits, six home runs, 12 runs batted in and 10 runs scored. Overall, her batting average has risen .014 points to .421 and has risen into the top-10 nationally in home runs with 18 on the season.

Earlier this season, Fortin was named the East Coast Conference Player of the Year and ECC Tournament Most Outstanding Player. Along with the all-conference accolades, Fortin also garnered National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-East Region and Google Cloud Academic All-District honors. With the first-team honor, Fortin is eligible for D2CCA All-American recognition.

Also contributing in a big way offensively this season is Seader, ranking third on the team with a .371 average and second with 72 hits. The junior backstop has compiled a .435 on-base percentage with 37 runs batted in out of the leadoff position in the lineup. Seader has tallied 21 multi-hit games this year, ranking second to Fortin for the team lead.

Humhej has also been outstanding in the circle, compiling a 4-1 record with a 1.56 earned run average during the postseason to complement a 19-9 overall record and 2.18 ERA to earn second-team accolades. The East Coast Conference Pitcher of the Year tossed a two-hit shutout against Adelphi in the East Region 1 championship game to help propel the Pioneers to the NCAA Super Regional round of the tournament.

The trio along with the rest of the Pioneers open Super Regional play at St. Anselm College on Thursday, May 17.
