LIU Post Announces Skylar Byram as Head Cheerleading Coach

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The LIU Post Department of Athletics announced the hiring of Skylar Byram as the university's head cheerleading coach June 20.

"I would like to thank President Cline and LIU Post for bringing me into this program," remarked Byram. "I am excited and anxious to begin working with this team and look forward to setting and achieving new goals."

Byram comes to Brookville after serving as an instructor for the Universal Cheerleading Association in the midsouth region where she taught cheers, sideline routines, and various dances and stunts. She also brings head coaching experience to the Pioneers after serving as the cheerleading coach at Desoto Central High School for the past year.

With an extensive background in choreography that includes conducting routines for the University of Mississippi, Mississippi State University, and 15 other groups, Byram will look to help coordinate routines for the Pioneers for the national level. The Pioneers have had success on the national stage, finishing second overall in the Intermediate Small Co-Ed Division II category at the National Cheerleading Association College Championship in 2016.

"We are very excited to have someone with Skylar's experience joining us here at LIU Post," Director of Athletics Debbie DeJong commented. "Her proven success from the ground level to the national stage is something we greatly admire and I believe that she will help carry out our tradition of excellence in this position."

A 2018 graduate of the Ole Miss, Byram was a two-year co-ed cheerleader, helping lead Ole Miss to a Co-Ed Division title at the Worlds University Championship in 2017. Prior to her time at Ole Miss, Byram was a spirit group member at Mississippi State and was named a team captain twice.
