BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The LIU Post women's volleyball team earned a pair of wins Sunday at the Long Island Invitational as it defeated Assumption College 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-14) and Post University 3-1 (23-25, 25-17 25-19, 25-16) inside the Pratt Recreation Center.

Under the tutelage of first year head coach Stephanie Sheehan the Pioneers move to 6-2 on the season while Assumption sits at 3-0 and Post 1-5.

The Pioneers recorded more kill than its opponents in both matches with a combined total of 94 to Assumption and Posts combined total of 65. The green & gold also had 13 total service aces to its opponents six.

Match Rewind vs. Assumption
Featuring two kills from sophomore Asiya Way, a kill from junior Samantha Colombo and a pair of Assumption attacking the Pioneers used a 5-0 run to gain a 5-1 lead out of the gate. While Assumption would win the next point the green & gold responded with a 7-0 run keyed off with an Assumption blocking error and a double-block from Way and junior Lea Brady. Londot added two service aces, Colombo added a kill and Way and Brady added another double-block as part of the Pioneers' run that gave them a 13-1 lead. The Greyhounds responded with a 3-0 run and the rest of the set was very much a back-and-forth battle but the Pioneers' early dominance led to them winning the set 25-13.

Senior Giulia Genna assisted on a Way kill to open the second but the early stages belonged to the Greyhounds. While the two teams began trading points Assumption eventually pulled ahead 13-9 as they looked to work their way back into the match. With the Greyhounds up 16-4 a kill from Londot started a 4-0 run with LIU Post taking its first lead of the set, 17-16, on another kill from Londot. Ahead 19-18, Genna set Way for a kill that propelled the Pioneers on another 4-0 featuring a Genna kill, a Greyhound attacking error and a Greyhound ball handling error. Junior Abby Eckhardt assisted on a Brady kill that saw LIU Post win the set 25-20.

Assumption earned the opening three points of the third set and held a 6-3 lead, their biggest of the set. LIU Post turned the corner down 7-5 with a 5-0 run started off by a Greyhound service error and featuring three Londot kills, a Colombo kill and an Assumption attacking error. With LIU Post up 11-8 a kill by senior Elise Strange began a 4-0 run for the Pioneers; a Genna service error briefly interrupted the Pioneers' string of consecutive points they would go on another 4-0 run started started by an Assumption ball handling error and featuring two kills from Strange to give them a 19-9 lead. Kills from Way, Londot and Eckhardt closed the third and final set out as LIU Post prevailed 25-14.
 
Top Performers
-          Londot had a match high 10 kills with a .318 attacking percentage, 12 digs, three total blocks and two service aces
-          Genna led the match in assists as she handed out 28. She also added 12 digs and three kills
-          Way finished with a .368 attacking percentage and nine kills while also adding five block assists; she shared the match-high in this category with Brady who also had five
-          Colombo contributed eight kills and eight digs

Match Rewind vs. Post
The Pioneers picked up where they left off in their previous match as they raced out to a 3-0 lead thanks to kills from Londot and junior Lauren Kloos as well as a junior Kassie Akouri-Tejedor service ace. With LIU Post up 8-4 a kill from Strange keyed another 3-0 run that also featured a service ace from Colombo and a Post service error; this put Pioneers ahead 11-4. LIU Post would then hold a 16-12 advantage and go on a 4-0 run keyed by a kill from Colombo and featuring block assists from freshman Kiora Ridgeway and Strange along with kills from Ridgeway and Genna. Despite the Pioneers holding a 20-12 lead the Eagles battled back to a 22-22 stalemate. Brady capitalized on an assist from Brady to give LIU Post a one-point advantage but Post would eventually win the set 25-23.

Post won the opening two points of the second set but a Londot kill that followed saw it start as a back-and-forth battle. With the score tied 5-5 a Post attacking error saw LIU Post take its first lead; with the Pioneers ahead 9-7 they went on a 4-0 run that featured a pair of service aces from Colombo coupled with a service error and an attacking error from the Eagles that gave LIU Post a 12-7 advantage. With the Pioneers ahead 13-9 a Londot kill led off a 3-0 run that also featured a service ace from junior Allie Ahearne. The Pioneers eventually took a 20-12 lead; the Pioneers and Eagles would trade points for the majority of the remainder of the set until a Ridgeway kill and an Ahearne service saw LIU Post take the set 25-17.

A service ace from Akouri-Tejedor and a kill from Kloos gave LIU Post the early advantage in the third set; ahead 2-1 the Pioneers would then go on a 4-0 run that featured kills from Londot and Kloos as well as a an attacking error and a ball handling error from the Eagles. Kloos would key another 4-0 run for LIU Post that also featured a kill from Genna and a pair of Post attacking errors that saw the Pioneers take a 14-3 lead. Much of the remainder of the set was a back-and-forth battle as the Eagles looked to chip away at the Pioneers' lead; with the Pioneers up 21-12 Post went on a 3-0 run that was eventually halted by a service error and a Londot kill. Ridgeway was the beneficiary of a Genna assist to put the Pioneers ahead 24-17 and kill from Londot saw LIU Post eventually win the set 25-19.

Post took the opening two points of the fourth set but an attacking error and a kill from Kloos saw the Pioneers level the score. The green & gold took its first lead, 4-3, after a Colombo kill from an Akouri-Tejedor assist that led off a 3-0 run that featured a service ace from Eckhardt and a kill from Londot. The Eagles then responded with a 3-0 run of their own but LIU Post would again take the lead, 8-6. Post showed resolve and went on a 4-0 run that put them ahead 10-8. A Post bad set, a pair of attacking errors and a Ridgeway kill saw the Pioneers mount a 4-0 run that saw them again take the lead 12-10. LIU Post then held the advantage 16-14 and used another 4-0 run to widen the gap to 21-14 thanks to two Londot kills, a Kloos kill and an Akouri-Tejedor service ace. Another Londot kill keyed a 4-0 run that saw an Eagle attacking error, a double-block from Kloos and Brady and a block by Brady close the set out with a final score of 25-16.
