BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Coming off a victory over Mercy College last night, the LIU Post women's volleyball team could not make it two wins in as many days as it suffered a 3-1 setback against the University of Bridgeport Saturday inside Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium.
The Pioneers record now stands at 11-7 and 3-2 in the ECC while Bridgeport is 10-5 and 4-1.

Despite sophomore
Lauren Kloos notching four kills on a .500 attacking percentage, the opening set belonged to Bridgeport. The Purple Knights took an early 6-2 lead to open the second set; LIU Post surged ahead in response taking a 9-8 after a 4-0 run keyed by a kill from freshman
Kiora Ridgeway that also featured a service ace by junior
Abby Eckhardt and a pair of Bridgeport service aces. That would be the only lead LIU Post as the Purple Knights won the set 25-19.
Following a Bridgeport service error on the opening point of the second set the Pioneers took a 5-0 lead after two double blocks by senior
Elise Strange and sophomore
Lauren Kloos, a service ace by junior
Samantha Colombo and a kill by senior
Rachel Londot. LIU Post then extended its lead to 8-1 but the Purple Knights eventually battled their way back into the set to lead 18-15. A kill by junior
Kassie Akouri-Tejedor led the Pioneers on a 6-0 run that saw them take a 21-18 lead; from there the Pioneers held on to win the set 25-22.
The Purple Knights won the opening two points of the third set then went on a 5-0 run to take a 7-1 lead. Down 16-8, the Pioneers were keyed by an Akouri-Tejedor kill that led LIU Post on an 8-0 that saw them narrow the score to just 17-16. Bridgeport then responded with a 4-0 run and eventually won the set 25-18.
Bridgeport opened the fourth set with a 3-0 run however it would play out as a back-and-forth battle. A kill by Colombo brought the score 7-6 then a 3-0 run featuring kills by Strange and Londot tied the score 10-10. Bridgeport then raced ahead 21-16 but the Pioneers battled to stay in the set with and used a 5-0 run to narrow the margin to just two points at 23-21. LIU Post's comeback attempt was eventually halted as Bridgeport took the 25-22.
Top Performers
- Kloos led the Pioneers in kills with 14 while adding three block assists
- Akouri-Tejedor handed out a team-high 26 assists. She also added nine digs and five kills
- Colombo recorded 13 kills, nine digs and three service aces
- Eckhardt led the Pioneers in digs with 16
