ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Graduate student Sasha Patterson scored her 1,000th point in a LIU Post uniform during the second quarter and the Pioneer women's basketball team garnered a 64-56 victory against Molloy College at Quealy Gymnasium on Wednesday, Jan. 30.

Patterson collected a rebound off of a miss by freshman Ja'Lyn Armstrong and banked in a layup from the left block with 7:43 remaining in the second stanza to reach the 1,000-point plateau, becoming the 20th Pioneer to reach the mark. The Brooklyn native reached the mark in less than three full seasons, posting 205, 483, and over 320 points during each season in Brookville.

In addition to the career milestone, Patterson led LIU Post with 26 points and 15 rebounds, posting her 11th double-double of the season. Senior Shannon Doyle added her 13th double-figure scoring game of the season, netting 14 points in 33 minutes off the bench.

An 8-0 burst during the first quarter helped LIU Post open a 14-6 lead with four minutes remaining in the stanza. The Lions chipped away at the deficit to make it a two-possession game (19-15) at the first break. LIU Post scored another eight unanswered points during the first four minutes of the second quarter to take a double-digit lead (27-15). Doyle and redshirt-junior Robyn Francis knocked down three-point baskets during the final five minutes of the half to help the Green and Gold extend the lead to 15 points (31-16) at the halftime break.

Molloy outscored the Pioneers, 16-14 during the third quarter before the Pioneers rolled to a 20-point advantage with 2:54 remaining in the contest after Patterson scored 10 consecutive points for LIU Post. The Lions ended the game on a 12-0 run but it was not enough to overcome the LIU Post advantage as the Pioneers held on for a 64-56 victory, extending its East Coast Conference win streak to three games.

LIU Post returns to action inside the Pratt Recreation Center on Saturday, Feb. 2 when the Pioneers host Queens College at 1:30 p.m.
