SINKING SPRING, Pa. – The LIU Post women's bowling team posted a 12th-place finish at the Golden Bear Classic hosted by Kutztown University at Berks Lanes on Saturday, Feb. 9 and Sunday, Feb. 10.
The three-day event was split into two baker format contests, with a one-day event on Friday before a two-day championship on Saturday and Sunday. During the one-day event, LIU Post finished with a 1-4 mark, defeating Coppin State University, 870-818 in the team's final match of the day.
It was a tough start to the day on Saturday, as the Pioneers tied host Kutztown University, 894-894 in the opening match. The Golden Bears earned a 105-82 tiebreak victory to earn the win and the Pioneers dropped matches to Chestnut Hill College and No. 24 Duquesne University. In the battle of Long Island University, the Green and Gold came up short to the nationally-ranked Blackbirds, 940-877 in its penultimate match of the day. LIU Post closed out the day with a 798-783 victory against Norfolk State University to finish 1-4 on the afternoon.
The Pioneers opened the bracket format of the event against Kutztown, falling 4-2 in their opening match. It was a bounce-back effort in the second match of the day as LIU Post held off Coppin State, 4-3 to earn the win. Wilmington University proved to be too much for the Pioneers in the final match as the Wildcats earned a 4-0 victory in the battle for 11th-place.
Sophomore
Emily Cavanaugh led the Pioneers with a 190.4 average on the weekend while freshman
Teresa LoCurto added a 180.0 average for the event.
LIU Post will travel to West Babylon on Saturday, Feb. 16 for a one-day event at the Metro Classic hosted by Westchester Community College at 9:00 a.m.
