Mallery’s Six Goals Leads Women’s Lacrosse to Victory Over Stonehill

EASTON, Mass. – Stonehill College had no answer for junior Alyssa Mallery Wednesday afternoon as she scored a game-high six goals and led the No. 9/13 LIU Post women's lacrosse team to victory over the Skyhawks at W.B. Mason Stadium, 16-12.
 
Along with her game-high six goals, Mallery also tied the game-high in ground balls with three along with redshirt-senior Carly Spano and junior Kendall Purdy. Senior Trish Brisotti, junior Brianna Feldman and sophomore Jamie Alvino each score three goals while Spano and junior Paige Sherlock led the Pioneers in caused turnovers with two. Junior Angela Deren led the game in assists with two, bringing her tally to 26 on the season which ranks third in the East Coast Conference (ECC).  Freshman Hailey Duchnowski earned the win between she pipes after she recorded 14 saves.
 
While it was the Skyhawks who got on the scoreboard first, a Feldman goal on the heels of a successful clear with 25:09 on the clock made it a 1-1 game. Mallery then gave the Pioneers a 2-1 lead after she scored on a free position shot with 22:56 remaining
 
The Pioneers then took a 3-1 lead after Alvino scored with 22:44 remaining; Stonehill followed with another goal but at 22:18 Alvino scored her second goal of the contest to give LIU Post a 4-2 lead. With 14:41 on the clock the Pioneers took a 5-2 lead thanks to Feldman's second goal of the game but the half continued as a back-and-forth battle as the Skyhawks made it a 5-3 game at 12:09.
 
Mallery's goal with 10:18 left in the half saw LIU Post expand its lead to 6-3 but Stonehill  made it a tied game after three-straight goals with 5:24 on the clock.
 
With 2:02 left in the half Deren found Mallery for a goal that goal that gave the Pioneers a 7-6 advantage heading into halftime.
 
Stonehill had no answer for Mallery in the second half as she scored back-to-back goals at 26:33 and 25:52. Brisotti followed with a goal at 25:26 that gave the Pioneers a 10-6 lead. Stonehill scored back-to-back goals and made it a 10-8 game but Sherlock found the back of the cage with 15:31 remaining for the Pioneers' 11th goal of the contest.
 
The Skyhawks made it an 11-9 game with 14:49 left to play Brisotti scored her second goal of the contest at 14:01 to give the Pioneers a 12-9 lead. The Pioneers and Skyhawks continued to trade goals but Mallery and Brisotti scored inside the final three minutes to seal the win for LIU Post, 16-12.
