BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The No. 6/5 LIU Post women's lacrosse team moved to 3-0 on the season Wednesday afternoon after taking down No. 14/17 Pace University 11-9 at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
 
The Setters had no answer for junior Alyssa Mallery; along with her game-high six goals, she tied her career-high in ground balls with five and added a game-high nine draw controls. Junior Brianna Feldman added two goals while senior Trish Brisotti along with juniors Paige Sherlock and Sara Stephens had one each. Junior Angela Deren led the game in assists after tying her career-high with six.
 
Freshman Hailey Duchnowski continued the stellar start to her freshman campaign as she saved 14 shots. Freshman Whitney Moran led the game in caused turnovers with three while Sherlock finished with two.
 
The Pioneers went 22-for-24 on clear attempts, out-shot Pace 28-25, tallied more ground balls 20-18 and caused nine turnovers.
 
LIU Post raced out to a 3-0 lead after Mallery scored three goals inside the opening 13 minutes.  The Setters responded with a goal of their own at 12:48 but Mallery scored on a free position shot with 10:50 on the clock to give the Pioneers a 4-1 lead. Pace fought back throughout the rest of the first half and went into halftime with a 5-4 advantage.
 
Mallery scored on another free position shot with 27:20 left to play in the second half to tie the score, 5-5, and Brisotti followed with another goal from an assist by Deren with 24:02 remaining to give LIU Post a 6-5 lead.
 
The Setters would tie the game 6-6 in the 20th minute but Sherlock and Mallery responded with goals to give the Pioneers an 8-6 lead with 19:35 remaining. Feldman's goal with 13 minutes remaining gave LIU Post a 9-6 lead; Stephens and Feldman followed with goals at 7:09 and 6:09 to give the Pioneers an 11-6 lead.
 
Pace went on to score three-straight goals, but LIU Post held on for the 11-9 win.
