NEW HAVEN, Conn. – In a thrilling contest that went down to the wire, the No. 9/15 LIU Post women's lacrosse team took down the No. 16/20 University of New Haven in overtime Tuesday night at Kathy Zolad Stadium after junior Brianna Feldman delivered a late goal that sealed the win for the Pioneers.

Along with scoring the game-winner, Feldman also scored the 100th goal of her career as her total now stands at 101. She finished with seven goals, tying for the game-high, and two draw controls on the night.
 

 

Junior Alyssa Mallery was also dominant for LIU Post with as she tied for the game-high in goals with seven while also adding 10 draw controls, two ground balls and one assist. While the first half was a back-and-forth battle and LIU Post was the first team to find the back of the cage after Feldman scored with 28:31 on the clock to give the Pioneers an early lead. New Haven responded with two goals of their then Mallery scored on a free position shot with 24:44 remaining in the half to make it a 2-2 contest.

The Chargers would go on a 7-0 run but the Pioneers would respond with a 4-0 run sparked by Sherlock's free position goal with 17:29 left in the half. Junior Angela Deren (15:58), Mallery (13:52) and Feldman (12:59) also scored during LIU Post's offensive surge. The teams traded goals for the remainder of the half and despite junior Sara Stephens and senior Trish Brisotti finding the back of the net for the Pioneers, New Haven took an 11-8 lead into halftime.

LIU Post started the second half off on a high note with three-straight goals; Mallery scored less than a minute into the half, Stephens scored her second goal of the game with 26:23 left to play and Mallery completed the 3-0 run with 25:19 on the clock.

New Haven responded with another goal but Mallery's free position goal with 22:40 remaining made it a 12-12 game. The Chargers went on a 3-0 run to take a 15-12 lead but Feldman answered with a goal at 17:26 that led off a 4-0 run, also featuring a goal by Brisotti and two by Mallery to give the Pioneers a 16-15 lead with 12:40 left to play. The Chargers would halt the Pioneers' run with a goal, but another 4-0 LIU Post run, of which three goals came courtesy of Feldman and one Stephens gave the Pioneers a 20-16 advantage with 2:43 left to play. Feldman's goal with 2:43 on the clock was the 100th of her career.

New Haven closed the second half out on a 4-0 run, sending the game into overtime.

Feldman began the overtime period by winning the draw control then with 4:26 on the clock firing a shot from the right side of the cage into the top left corner to seal the win for LIU Post, 21-20.
