OLD WESTBURY. N.Y. – The third-seeded LIU Post women's lacrosse team fell 11-9 to top-seeded Mercy College in the East Coast Conference (ECC) Championship Game Saturday afternoon at President's Stadium on the campus of the New York Institute of Technology.

The Pioneers have now played in six-consecutive ECC Championship title games, which is as long as the ECC has held a conference tournament for in women's lacrosse.
 
Junior Brianna Feldman finished with a team-high three goals while junior Alyssa Mallery contributed two goals, three ground balls and one draw control. Junior Angela Deren, who also led the game in assists with three, junior Paige Sherlock , sophomore Jamie Alvino and freshman Madeline Schaefer also scored for LIU Post.
 
Defensively, redshirt senior Carly Spano had a team-high three caused turnovers while junior Kendall Purdy and Sherlock each had two. Freshman goalkeeper Hailey Duchnowski finished with nine saves.
 
Feldman gave the Pioneers an early lead as she scored the opening goal of the contest with 28:19 on the clock, but the Mavericks responded shortly after with a goal of their own with 27:29 left to play.
 
While LIU Post retook the lead with 25:28 after Mallery found the back of the cage, the Mavericks jumped out to a 5-2 lead with 16:38 on the clock thanks to a 4-0 run.
 
Mallery slotted her 82nd goal of the season on a free position shot to halt Mercy's run with 11:12 left in the half but Mercy would add another goal with 10:33 on the clock.
 
Deren's offensive prowess was on display late in the first half as she scored with 6:47 remaining in the half then found Feldman for her second goal of the contest with 4:10 on the clock, making it a 6-5 game. Alvino would spin past a defender and fire a shot into the top right hand corner with 29 seconds left to make it 6-6 contest at the half.
 
The Mavericks opened the half with two-consecutive goals by Deren found Feldman for the Pioneers' first goal of the half with 23:09 on the clock, making it an 8-7 game.
 
The Pioneers tied it up 8-8 with 12:30 remaining after Deren handed out her third assist of the game, this time to Sherlock.
 
Despite the back-and-forth nature of the game, Mercy would use a 3-0 run to pull ahead 11-8 with 3:30 remaining. Schaefer would add a final man-up goal for the Pioneers with 47 seconds left on the clock the Mavericks held on the for 11-9 victory.
