Melissa Harris is entering her third year as Coordinator of Athletic Operations and Special Events at LIU Post.
In her current role, she is responsible for athletic game day operations, special events, the internship program and various marketing and promotional aspects. She also serves as the department’s liaison with the university’s Public Safety, Audio Visual, Catering and Conference Services departments.
Some of her other responsibilities include organizing the Football Hall of Fame and Student-Athlete Recognition Dinner. She also works with the university’s Development and Alumni office for the annual Athletic Hall of Fame Dinner. Harris assists with the oversight of the LIU Post athletic venues, including the Pratt Recreation Center , Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium, Pioneer Soccer Park and the LIU Post Softball Complex.
Harris also works with many external vendors to coordinate operational logistics for NCAA and conference tournament post-season events. Since 2013, she has either directed or assisted the university in hosting three NCAA Division II Championship events in men’s soccer, women’s lacrosse and softball.
Originally from Grand Prairie, T.X., Harris earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology-Sport Administration at the University of Houston in 2010. After graduation, Harris obtained her Master’s Degree in Sports Management from St. John’s University in 2013. Harris is no stranger to LIU Post, as she spent the 2012-13 season in Brookville as a part-time assistant for then-coordinator Matthew Guercio. During that short stint, Harris helped with the development and operation of promotional game-day events, staffing, set-up and breakdown, overseeing a student-worker staff, and completing general office duties.
