Rob Cafiero is in his fourth season as assistant coach with the LIU Post baseball team. Cafiero comes to LIU Post after serving as an assistant coach at Hofstra University in 2014.

"Rob is a very well-respected coach around Long Island," said Gaffney. "His playing and coaching experience will be an asset to our program as we continue to build a winning tradition at LIU Post. I think Rob will be a great mentor to our hitters and our team will benefit from his experiences."

Cafiero was the starting first baseman for four years (1999-2002) at Villanova University, earning Third Team All-America honors from Baseball America and Freshman All-America accolades from Louisville Slugger in 1999. A Big East All-Rookie Team selection, Cafiero led the conference with 72 RBIs as a freshman. He would also earn All-Big East honors following his senior season and graduated as the Wildcats' all-time leader in RBIs (196), doubles (61) and games played (202). Additionally, Cafiero ranks sixth all-time in RBIs (88) and 16th in home runs (18) in Big East Conference games. His four-year career batting average at Villanova was .335. In 2018, Villanova inducted Cafiero into its athletics Hall of Fame, recognizing his outstanding collegiate career.

Drafted in the 32nd round by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2002 MLB First Year Player Draft, Cafiero went on to play seven years of professional baseball with Class-A Batavia. He later played for the Pennsylvania Road Warriors and Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League.

Cafiero started his coaching career as the bench coach for the Ducks in 2008 and as manager for the 2009 Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League champion Westhampton Aviators. Prior to his two-year stint (2013-14) at Hofstra, Cafiero was the hitting coach at St. Joseph's College in Patchogue from 2009-13.

Since 2011, Cafiero has served as the manager of the Southampton Breakers in the Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League. He has guided the Breakers to the playoffs three of the five years he has managed there, and won a pair of Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League Championships. In those five years, Cafiero has coached 21 players who have been selected in the Major League Draft. Two of these players are currently playing in the majors.

A native of Massapequa Park, Cafiero also owns and operates Hitter's Club, an indoor baseball facility in Farmingdale. He is a 2002 graduate of Villanova with a bachelor's degree in Business Management from the College of Commerce and Finance.
