On Jul. 26, 2016, LIU Post Director of Athletics and Recreation Bryan Collins announced that Amanda Ostapow
was named the 13th head coach in the history of the LIU Post volleyball team.
Ostapow, a 2011 graduate of LIU Post, takes over for the program's all-time winningest coach Shellane Ogoshi.
"We are very proud of the deep tradition and excellence in our volleyball program," Collins said. "Shellane did an outstanding job with our student-athletes and we are happy to take a product of our program in Amanda and introduce her as our new head coach. We feel that the experience she gained as a student-athlete and coach at the collegiate level makes her the right fit at the right time for our volleyball program."
In her three seasons (2008-10) as the Pioneers' starting setter, Ostapow played in 85 matches (302 sets), allocating 2,324 career assists. She also collected 550 digs, 99 service aces and 98 blocks in her time at LIU Post.
"I am overjoyed for the opportunity to be a part of the LIU Post volleyball program," stated Ostapow. "I would first like to thank Bryan for offering me the opportunity to lead this incredible program as its head coach. As an alumnus, it is a great feeling to be able to give back to an institution that means so much to me."
Ostapow later added: "Shellane created a winning culture here at LIU Post and while I will be bringing my own philosophy and coaching style to my tenure, I am stepping into a truly exceptional situation. I look forward to building on the incredible success of those who came before me, reconnecting with fellow alumni and carrying on the rich tradition of Pioneer volleyball."
Ostapow, who received her bachelor's degree in Physical Education from LIU Post and a master's degree in Sports Management from Dowling College, currently resides in East Setauket, N.Y.
