Chris Perez joins the LIU Post wrestling staff for the 2018-19 campaign as an assistant coach.
Perez comes to Brookville having put together an incredibly successful career as a Division I wrestler at Princeton University and Indiana University. During his collegiate career, he was named a team captain for both squads, while also qualifying for the NCAA Championships and earning All-Ivy League accolades twice and placing in the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association Championship twice.
While at Princeton, Perez led all Tiger freshmen with 19 victories before missing the remainder of the season due to injury. In the same season, Perez was awarded the Hooker Trophy for Most Outstanding Freshman at Princeton. After missing the season as a sophomore while recovering from injury, Perez bounced back with an All-Ivy League performance as a junior, reaching the finals in the EIWA Championship and earning two victories at the NCAA Championship, reaching the round of 16.
As a senior, Perez ranked in the Top-20 nationally for most of the season before once again having his season cut short due to injury. He later graduated from Princeton with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and was chosen as a keynote speaker at commencement for senior student-athletes.
Following graduation, Perez was awarded an extra year of eligibility and competed at Indiana while pursuing his master’s degree. In his one season with the Hoosiers, Perez earned All-Big Ten accolades, while also receiving Academic All-America honors. He later graduated with his master’s degree in strategic management and business administration.
