Williams Selected to Google Cloud Academic All-District First Team

ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT SELECTIONS

GREENWOOD, Ind. – The 2017-18 Google Cloud Academic All-District women's track & field/cross country teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, were announced May 29 with LIU Post senior Talya Williams garnering first-team recognition.

Williams earned first-team All-District 1 accolades, including student-athletes from member institutions of the East Coast Conference, Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, and Northeast-10 Conference. With the first-team distinction, Williams is eligible for Academic All-America recognition, announced in June.

To be considered for the award, student-athletes must be a starter or key contributor on their respective teams, while holding a cumulative grade point average above a 3.30. The organization recognizes student-athletes that have completed at least one school year at their current institution and have reached at least sophomore athletic eligibility.

Williams, the ECC's runner of the year for cross country, graduated earlier this month with a 3.97 GPA as a criminal justice major. As an athlete, Williams had an outstanding season for the Green and Gold during cross country, indoor and outdoor track & field. During the cross-country season, Williams recorded five victories during 5,000-meter competitions, including the ECC Championship on October 21. The success continued during the indoor track & field season where Williams captured nine individual victories and a conference title in the 1-mile run and 3,000-meter run. The senior closed out her collegiate career with two more conference titles during the outdoor season, taking first in the 1,500-meter run and 5,000-meter run at the ECC Championships.
