BROOKVILLE, N.Y (Oct. 27, 2013) – The LIU Post men's and women's cross country teams swept the 2013 East Coast Conference Championships on Sunday, held on campus at LIU Post, marking the fifth-straight win for the men's squad, while the women captured their first conference title in three years.
In the first race of the day, LIU Post women's team had two All-Conference runners in senior, Jenn McLaughlin (Seaford, N.Y.), and sophomore, Elizabeth Stirling (Wantagh, N.Y.). Stirling was the first Pioneer across the finish line, posting a new school-record time of 18:44.65 to place eighth overall. Alexa Montegari (Wanaque, N.J.) (25th), Angelica Price (Tampa, Fla.) (26th) and Jessica Wiking (Farmingdale, N.Y.) (30th) were the other runners to score for LIU Post, leading to a team total of 44 that was four points better than runner up, St. Thomas Aquinas.
In the men's race, the Pioneers also came out on top with 44 points after placing five runners in the top 21 finishers. Two of their runners earned All-Conference spots. Joseph Lasher (Seaford, N.Y.) was first across the line for LIU Post with a second place finish in a time of 25:28.62. His time now sits at eighth on the school's All-Time list. Matt O'Keefe (East Rockaway, N.Y.) was the other All-Conference runner for the Pioneers with a 14th place showing in a time of 26:28.25.
