BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Aug. 19, 2013) - On Monday, Director of Athletics Bryan Collins (Sayville, N.Y.) announced the appointment of Melissa Harris (Flushing, N.Y.) as LIU Post's Coordinator of Athletic Operations and Special Events.

In this capacity, she will oversee all of the game-day operations for the Pioneers' 15 NCAA Division II varsity programs, and organize the department's fundraising and student-athlete recognition events.

"At LIU Post, we strive to create an environment in which our student-athletes, coaches, visiting institutions, officials and fans feel is an overall great experience," said Collins. "The Coordinator of Athletic Operations is crucial to this success. We are proud and excited to announce Melissa Harris as our Coordinator of Athletic Operations and Special Events."

Harris is no stranger to LIU Post, as she spent the 2012-13 season in Brookville as a part-time assistant for then-coordinator Matthew Guercio. During that short stint, Harris helped with the development and operation of promotional game-day events, staffing, set-up and breakdown, overseeing a student-worker staff, and completing general office duties.

"Melissa has been with us this past year, and has demonstrated the talent, skill set and enthusiasm to create the environment we need," Collins added. "Because of her past experience with us, Melissa will be able to hit the ground running as our teams are reporting for their preseason."

"I am very grateful and thankful to become the new Coordinator of Athletic Operations and Special Events at LIU Post," Harris said. "I am excited to be a part of the LIU Post family, and will be committed and passionate about contributing to the ongoing success that the Pioneers have already established. I look forward to taking part in this new adventure."

She served one-year assignments as an intern at Queens College (2012), and Spring Branch I.S.D. (2010), before joining the Pioneers.

Harris, who graduated from University of Houston with a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology-Sport Administration in 2010, is currently pursing a master's from St. John's University in Sport Management.
