Women's Tennis Loses to NYIT in Regular-Season Finale, 7-0
Box ScoreOLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Oct. 20, 2014) - The LIU Post women's tennis team closed out the 2014 regular season Monday with a 7-0 loss to East Coast Conference rival NYIT in Old Westbury.
In top-flight singles, junior
Didi Fatchikova (Sofia, Bulgaria) fell short against the Bears' (10-0, 8-0 ECC) Alessia Rossetti, 6-1, 6-2. Sophomore
Heena Kewalramani (Bangkok, Thailand) won only two games in a 6-1, 6-1 defeat at the hands of Sarah Burinato in the second-singles position. Fellow sophomore
Laura Harwell (Alabaster, Ala.) also managed to take a game off the opposition, but dropped a 6-1, 6-0 decision to Gabriela Siembab at No. 3 singles.
Meanwhile, in pairs action, Rossetti and Burinato defeated the duo of Fatchikova and Kewalramani, 8-1, in first doubles. Harwell and freshman
Meagan Byrne (Deer Park, N.Y.) suffered an 8-0 defeat to Siembab and Melanie Benyadi at the second flight.
LIU Post (7-4, 5-3 ECC) and NYIT will now meet again on Friday in the semifinals of the East Coast Conference Championship at Queens College in Flushing, N.Y. The start time for the match has yet to be determined.
