Women's Tennis at NYIT - 3 p.m.Having already secured a berth in the East Coast Conference Championship for the second year in a row, the LIU Post women's tennis team looks to end its regular season on a high note Monday, when it faces NYIT at 3 p.m. in Old Westbury, N.Y.
The Pioneers are coming off a 9-0 defeat on Saturday at the hands of Queens. The loss dropped the green and gold to 7-3 overall and 5-2 versus league opposition.
Juniors
Didi Fatchikova (Sofia, Bulgaria) and
Lucie Chrastecka (Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic) have led the way for LIU Post in 2014. Fatchikova currently owns the ECC's second-best No. 1 singles record at 7-1, while Chrastecka is still without a loss at second singles (6-0).
In top-flight doubles, the tandem of Fatchikova and Chrastecka sport a 6-1 record, which runs second to only NYIT's Sara Burinato and Alessia Rossetti's unblemished 6-0 mark.
The Pioneers' Northern Boulevard rival, NYIT, is undefeated on the year (9-0, 7-0 ECC). On Thursday, the Bears rounded out the road portion of their 2014 schedule with a 7-1 win at Molloy. The Lions were unable to take a game off the opposition, as NYIT was triumphant in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) in singles play, and captured a pair of 8-0 victories in doubles. Molloy's lone win came via forfeit at No. 6 singles.
Women's Soccer at Philadelphia - 3:30 p.m.Boasting an unbeaten streak of 11 straight games, the No. 25 LIU Post women's soccer team carries its 10-1-1 record into the City of Brotherly Love on Monday against Philadelphia U. at 3:30 p.m. The contest is the first of a four-game road swing to close out the 2014 regular season.
The Pioneers last took to the pitch on Wednesday in a 2-2 tie versus East Coast Conference rival Dowling. Junior forward
Susanne Vistnes (Randaberg, Norway), the league's leading goal-scorer with 14, accounted for both tallies in the draw.
Between the pipes, sophomore goalie
Hreffie Agnarsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) made five stops. She has recorded 29 saves on the year. Additionally, her 0.68 goals-against average ranks third amongst the ECC's top keepers.
The Rams' record nearly mirrors that of LIU Post at 10-1-2. They have won seven of their last eight games, and outscored their opposition by a 15-1 count in that stretch. Through 13 games, junior midfielder Carla Chmielewski is Philadelphia's leading point-getter. She has collected six goals and two assists thus far for a 14-point output.
