The Pioneer Trail: Friday, Oct. 31, 2014

Women's Soccer at Roberts Wesleyan - 5 p.m.
Instead of trick-or-treating, the LIU Post women's soccer team will look to improve its position in the East Coast Conference standings Friday, as it squares off with Roberts Wesleyan in a 5 p.m. tilt in Rochester, N.Y.

The Pioneers (12-1-1, 6-0-1 ECC), who were recently tabbed second in the NCAA Division II East Region Rankings, are unbeaten in their last 13 games. They have shut out their last two opponents by the scores of 1-0.

Back on Oct. 20, junior forward Susanne Vistnes (Randaberg, Norway) scored the game-winning tally with 41 seconds remaining in regulation to lift LIU Post to a one-goal victory at Philadelphia.

Five days later, senior back Lauren Bellone (West Islip, N.Y.) found the back of the net off a Vistnes pass in a shutout of then-No. 13 ranked Mercy.

Roberts Wesleyan's (8-8, 2-5 ECC) last result was a 5-0 blanking of Malone on Oct. 25. Sophomore midfielder Bella Mitrevski (Rochester, N.Y.) notched a pair of goals in the win. She leads the Redhawks with 28 points (12 G, 4 A) on the year.

Men's Soccer at Roberts Wesleyan - 7:30 p.m.
The LIU Post men's soccer team can clinch home-field advantage in the East Coast Conference semifinals with a victory Friday at Roberts Wesleyan. The two teams are scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m.

The Pioneers (11-3-1, 6-1-1) are unbeaten in their last eight games, and have won seven in a row. Last Saturday, the green and gold held on for a 4-3 win at Mercy. Senior forward Eivind Austboe (Stavanger, Norway) netted two goals in the match, while junior midfielder Matias Ruiz (Southampton, N.Y.) added a tally and an assist.

Austboe is presently LIU Post's leading point-getter with 28 points (13 G, 2 A). Between the pipes, junior keeper Jesper Malmstrom (Linkopping, Sweden) boasts a 10-2-1 record with 37 saves and a 0.97 goals-against average.

Roberts Wesleyan (9-5-2, 4-4 ECC) has won five of its last eight, and sits a half game behind UDC and Molloy for the final playoff spot in the ECC Tournament. The Redhawks' last decision, however, was a 4-0 loss at the hands of Houghton. Senior forward Michael Cunningham (Derbyshire, England) paces the Roberts offense with a 26-point output (9 G, 8 A).
