MANSFIELD, Mass. (Nov. 20, 2014) - After capturing a Northeast-10 Conference regular-season title, the LIU Post field hockey team took home three major NE-10 year-end honors on Thursday. Junior forward
Keliann Margiotta (Sewell, N.J.) was tabbed as the NE-10 Player of the Year, while graduate defender
Dani Crouse (Westville, South Africa) garnered the league's Defensive Player of the Year accolade. Head Coach
Raenee Savin (Nesconset, N.Y.) collected her second-consecutive Coach of the Year honor, as she guided the Pioneers to a 15-2 overall and 10-1 conference mark.
Margiotta currently leads the conference in goals (30), and paces all of Division II with a 1.76 goals per game average. She has also dished out 14 assists, good for second in the NE-10, during her prolific 2014 campaign. The unanimous first-team selection has amassed 74 points on the year for the Pioneers, which is currently 20 more than the athlete that trails her. The Sewell native has scored at least one goal in 13 of LIU Post's 17 games, and posted five games in which she has tallied at least three goals.
Anchoring a LIU Post back line that allowed opponents only 19 goals through the season, Crouse won the NE-10 Defensive Player of the Year award. The Westville, South Africa native commanded a green and gold defensive effort that posted six shutouts, while aiding the Pioneer offense with eight goals and seven assists.
Senior forward
Lyn-Marie Wilson (Bridgetown, Barbados) joins Margiotta and Crouse on the All-NE-10 first-team. She has recorded 12 goals and 10 assists for a 34-point output in 2014. Freshman forward
Kaycee Zelkovsky (Lambertville, N.J.) earned a spot on the All-Rookie squad for her 10 goals and four assists through the season.
Savin, the Northeast-10 Coach of the Year, led the No. 4 Pioneers to their second-consecutive regular-season crown in just their second year as an associate member of the conference.
LIU Post returns to action today (Nov. 20), when it hosts American International in a Northeast-10 Conference Championship semifinal at 1 p.m. at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium in Brookville, N.Y.
