LIU Post Athletics Mourns the Passing of Dr. Sean Grennan
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 5, 2014) - Last week, a dear friend and true-hearted supporter of the LIU Post Department of Athletics was lost.
Dr. Sean Grennan passed away at the age of 71 after a long battle with illness.
Better known as "Doc" by his peers, Grennan served as a Professor of Criminal Justice and Faculty Athletic Representative in his tenure at LIU Post. To this day, he had mentored and cared for thousands of student-athletes, as if they were his own children.
In addition to teaching student-athletes in the classroom, he always made an appearance at home games to support LIU Post's athletic programs.
"Doc Grennan will be very much missed here in the Athletic Department," said Director of Athletics and Recreation
Bryan Collins (Sayville, N.Y.). "He always offered words of encouragement and assisted so many student-athletes over the years with their classes, internships and NCAA grants. His presence in the lives of our student-athletes, both academically and athletically, will truly be missed.
Grennan is survived by his wife, Peggy, and two daughters, Megan and Lauren.
Memories of Dr. Sean Grennan:Administrative Assistant
Marie Guarnieri:
"In speaking with any student, especially our student-athletes who majored in criminal justice, they will all tell you, 'I didn't major in Criminal Justice; I majored in Grennan.' Dr. Grennan was not a textbook teacher. He drew on real life experiences as only he could, from his 22 years of experience in the New York City Police Department. Doc will surely be missed by all who knew him."
