DANBURY, Conn. (Dec. 19, 2014) - The Eastern College Athletic Conference revealed its 2014 Division II Women's Soccer All-Star Team on Thursday, and LIU Post junior forward Susanne Vistnes (Randaberg, Norway) was selected as the offensive player of the year for the second-straight season.
In addition, sophomore back Kristin Brandman (East Northport, N.Y.) joined Vistnes on the ECAC All-Star first-team, while sophomore forward/midfielder Julia Backman (Morsil, Sweden) and senior back Lauren Bellone (West Islip, N.Y.) landed spots on the second-team.
Vistnes, no stranger to postseason awards, has seen her name show up on many honorable lists this year. Earlier this week, the junior was named to the NSCAA Scholar All-America third-team. Prior to that, Vistnes was picked to the CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District ledger.
Last month, Vistnes, a back-to-back NSCAA All-America third-team choice (2013 & 2014), was recognized as the 2014 Daktronics Division II East Region Player of the Year.
Vistnes, a three-time East Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Year honoree and All-ECC first-team selection, aided the Pioneers in winning the 2014 East Coast Conference regular-season title, and advancing to the second round of the NCAA Division II Championship. She tallied 19 goals and 11 assists for a 49-point output.
Brandman, the 2014 ECC Defensive Player of the Year, earned Daktronics All-America honors for the first time in her collegiate career earlier this month. She paved the way for an LIU Post defense that allowed 0.72 goals against this season, good enough for third-best in the league and 41st in the country. The East Northport native was also placed on the Daktronics All-East Region first-team, alongside Vistnes.
Bellone, an NSCAA All-East Region and All-ECC second-team pick, played most of the season as an offensive threat out of the back line for the Pioneers. She ranked second on the team with nine goals, while her 13 assists were tops in the conference. The senior finished the campaign with 31 points.
Backman, the third-leading scorer for the Pioneers, scored five goals and added two assists for a 12-point total. Three of Backman's five goals were game-winners, the third-most on the squad.
