PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Feb. 15, 2014) - Another strong effort in the pool by the LIU Post women's swimming team helped the green and gold retain its lead at the Metropolitan Championships after Day Two concluded. The highlight of the day included the Pioneer 200-yard medley relay team, as it set a school, conference and Rutgers' pool record.

LIU Post holds a decisive lead (940 total points), with the second-place school, Bridgeport, sporting a 718-point total. Southern Connecticut State and TCNJ are currently tied for third at 579 points each.

Day Two started with the Pioneers making a splash in the 200-yard medley relay. The squad made up of senior Tamara Garriock (Duncan, British Columbia, Canada), junior Courtney Delehanty (Oceanport, N.J.), and sophomores Seren Jones (Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom) and Joyce Kwok (Middle Village, N.Y.) finished with an NCAA "B" cut time of 1:42. They beat the previous pool record set by the University of Florida in the process, while also establishing a new Metropolitan Conference and school record.

Junior Carolin Rademacher (Isernhagen, Germany) followed up the relay gold with a win of her own in the 400-yard individual medley. She lowered her school record by almost a second (4:23.55), and held a 13.87 second cushion ahead of the rest of the competition. Teammate Kirsty Elliott (Edinburgh, Scotland) earned an eighth-place finish, clocking a 4:53.71.

Kwok swam to a second-place time of 53.98 in the 100-yard butterfly. Sophomore Marthe Soerensen (Stavanger, Norway) was right behind in third place (56.63).

In the 200-yard freestyle, seniors Angelica Norrena (Solna, Sweden) and Malin Hedberg (Vasteras, Sweden) battled out for third, and fourth place, respectively, as they finished almost simultaneously with marks of 1:55.63 and 1:55.68. Sophomore Kat Kazaba (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.), Delehanty, and freshman Poppy Hill (London, England, United Kingdom) added respective seventh, eighth, and ninth-place finishes.

Setting the third school record of the day was Garriock. Her time of 1:03.39 in the 100-yard breaststroke was good for a second-place showing. She bested her previous record by just over one-half of a second. Classmate Chelcee Hew (Savage, Minn.) registered a Top-10 finish as well with a sixth-place swim of 1:07.71 in the event.

The final individual event of the day was the 100-yard backstroke. The green and gold managed a sweep of the Top-3. Jones moved to third in Pioneer history with her first-place, 'B' cut clocking of 55.97. Junior Johanna Pettersson (Kungalv, Sweden) was just six-hundredths of a second behind in second, and sophomore Meghan Brazier (West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) rounded it out, touching the pad at 57.14.

Garriock, Norrena, Rademacher, and Kwok combined for a second-place finish and second-best Pioneer time of 7:36.54 in the 800-yard freestyle relay to close out the day's events.

LIU Post will look to wrap up the Metropolitan Championships on top Sunday (Feb. 16) with the 1,650-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly, and 400-yard freestyle relay left to swim. Click here for real-time updates and results.
