Women's Tennis Wins Second Straight; Beats Daemen, 6-3
Box ScoreBROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 6, 2014) - On Saturday, the LIU Post women's tennis team won four of six singles flights and two of three doubles matches in a 6-3 victory over East Coast Conference rival Daemen in Brookville, N.Y.
With the win, the Pioneers claimed their second-straight victory and increased their 2014 mark to an undefeated 2-0 (2-0 ECC).
At No. 1 and No. 2 singles, juniors
Didi Fatchikova (Sofia, Bulgaria) and Lucie Chrastecka (Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic) made quick work of thier opponents Hayle Scanlan (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Gretchen Ringler (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) with 6-0, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-0 straight-set decisions, respectively. The pair also clinched their doubles match, defeating the same competitors, 8-0.
In other singles action, sophomore Heena Kewalramani (Bangkok, Thailand) defeated Celina Wozniak (Tonawanda, N.Y.) by a 6-2, 6-0 count in the No. 3 position. Fellow sophomore Laura Harwell (Alabaster, Ala.) bested Aman Shamaa (Clarence, N.Y.), 6-1, 6-1, at the No. 4 flight.
Head Coach Darrel Bielawski and the Pioneers are back in action Thursday (Sept. 11) as they travel to Philadelphia to face Holy Family. First serve is set for 3:30 p.m.
