Women's Tennis Closes Out Regular Season With 9-0 Win at Daemen

AMHERST, N.Y. (Oct. 17, 2015) 
- The LIU Post women's tennis team wrapped up the 2015 regular season Saturday with a 9-0 blanking of East Coast Conference foe Daemen College at the Ellicott Tennis Courts.

The victory improved the Pioneers to 6-5 overall and 4-3 in ECC play. The green and gold also extended their winning streak to three consecutive matches.

Seniors Didi Fatchikova (Sofia, Bulgaria) and Lucie Chrastecka (Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic) kicked off doubles play with an 8-2 win over Hayle Scanlan (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Karli Hollins (Orchard Park, N.Y.) at the No. 1 flight. Freshman Shanice Arthur (Brookville, N.Y.) and junior Heena Kewalramani (Bangkok, Thailand) were identical 8-2 victors in second doubles, knocking off Gretchen Ringler (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) and Jessica Robins (North Tonawanda, N.Y.). At No. 3 doubles, junior Laura Harwell (Alabaster, Ala.) and sophomore Meagan Byrne (Deer Park, N.Y.) earned a hard-fought 8-5 triumph against Sarah Crissy (Tonawanda, N.Y.) and Delaney Fragale (Lockport, N.Y.).

In top singles, Arthur defeated Hollins in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3. Fatchikova surrendered just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 win versus Scanlan at the second position. Chrastecka upended Ringler, 6-1, 6-1, in third singles. Kewalramani made quick work of Robins in a 6-2, 6-0 victory at the No. 4 flight. Harwell and Byrne were straight-set winners, as well. Harwell beat Fragale, 6-2, 6-4, in fifth singles, while Byrne was a 6-4, 6-2 winner in the sixth-singles match against Crissy.

Head Coach Walter Giacometti and the Pioneers have secured the No. 4 seed in the East Coast Conference Championship. They await the official announcement of their opponent in Friday's (Oct. 23) semifinal at Queens College.
