BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Dec. 10, 2015) - On Thursday morning, the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics released its initial Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings for the 2015-16 season, and LIU Post placed 20th in the tally.
The Pioneers collected a total of 123 points, based on the performances by LIU Post's men's and women's soccer programs in the NCAA Division II Tournament.
The men's soccer team captured their second-straight NCAA Division II East Region Championship, after defeating then-No. 3 Southern New Hampshire University in penalty kicks, 5-4. It also reached the national quarterfinal round for the second time in as many years. The Pioneers, who finished with a record of 15-3-3, concluded the 2015 campaign at No. 8 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Top-25 Poll.
Meanwhile, the LIU Post women's soccer team reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the second-consecutive year. Despite falling to eventual national semifinalist University of Bridgeport, the Pioneers beat Roberts Wesleyan College in penalty kicks, 5-3, in their NCAA opener.
Holding a No. 20 ranking, the green and gold topped all other programs from the East Coast Conference. Only two other institutions (Stonehill College - No. 7; Merrimack College - No. 14) from the East Region currently rank higher than LIU Post.
