WESTLAKE, Ohio (Apr. 2, 2015) - After completion of the winter sports season for the 2014-15 academic year, the LIU Post Department of Athletics stands fourth in the latest NACDA Division II Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Standings, released Wednesday morning.
The green and gold scored points in the winter season in two sports. Led by nine All-America finishes, the Pioneers' women's swimming team placed seventh at the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships to earn an impressive 72 points in the standings.
The wrestling team, which returned to varsity status for the first time since 1988, sent two of its grapplers to the national championships in St. Louis, Mo. Freshman
Joe Calderone (Huntington Station, N.Y.) and senior
Chris DiIorio (Holtsville, N.Y.) earned bids at the 133- and 197-lb. weight classes, respectively. Calderone garnered All-America distinction, following a sixth-place finish.
LIU Post collected 40 points for its efforts on the mat. In all, the Pioneers amassed 112 points in the winter season, and now boast an overall total of 431 points.
Grand Valley State currently tops the standings with 660 points. Colorado Mesa (490.50 points) and Wingate (436.50 points) individually sit second and third. Adams State (419 points) rounds out the Top-5.
