BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Jan. 7, 2015) - With the spring semester around the corner, the LIU Post Department of Athletics announced Thursday that the LIU Post baseball team placed 30 names on the department's academic honor roll.
To be eligible, student-athletes must receive a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher. The 30 baseball student-athletes earning the distinction in the Fall 2015 semester are the most in recent history for the program.
Of the 30 student-athletes, 11 posted a 3.5 GPA or higher and one student-athlete recorded a 4.0.
Head Coach
Mike Gaffney praised his players for their efforts in the classroom: "I'm so proud of the success we have seen in the classroom so far this year. We take a lot of pride in academics and this has justified the efforts we have put in."
"What I am most proud of is the guys who didn't necessarily have this success in the past. They have turned things around and are now achieving what they are capable of due to the new habits they have been practicing," Gaffney added. "We aren't done yet. There are more than a few guys who are right there knocking on the door to join the honor roll for next semester."
The LIU Post baseball team opens the 2016 season on the road in Gaffney, S.C. where they will play four games at Limestone College on Feb. 13 and 14.
