BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 14, 2016) - On Friday, the LIU Post women's tennis team used a strong start to beat Roberts Wesleyan College, 5-4, in an East Coast Conference tilt at the LIU Post Tennis Courts.
Sophomores
Stanislava Klymova (Dnipro, Ukraine) and
Shanice Arthur (Brookville, N.Y.) kicked off doubles competition with an 8-5 win against Marousia Bosch (Utrecht, Netherlands) and Natalia Cardona (Armenia, Colombia) in the top flight.
Sophomore
Lara Scholtze (Bad Homburg, Germany) and freshman
Charlotte Hynes (Weston, Fla.) made quick work of Tiffany Hamdan (Johnson City, N.Y.) and Salome Darsalia (Stoney Creek, Ontario) in an 8-1 rout in the second-doubles position.
Scholtze also opened up singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Bosch at the No. 1 flight. Arthur earned a 6-0, 7-5 victory against Hamdan in the second-singles position. Klymova clinched the win for the Pioneers (4-1, 3-1 ECC) with a straight-set defeat (6-4, 6-3) of Cardona in No. 3 singles.
In fifth singles, senior
Laura Harwell (Alabaster, Ala.) fought valiantly, but dropped a three-set decision (5-7, 6-4, 9-11) to Marine Kennel (BennWhir-Gare, France).
Head Coach
Walter Giacometti and his LIU Post squad return to action Saturday (Oct. 15), when they wrap up the home portion of their 2016 fall slate against ECC nemesis Daemen College. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
