ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Oct. 22, 2016) - On Saturday, junior
Talya Williams (Schenectady, N.Y.) won the 5k in 17:42.7 to lead the LIU Post men's and women's cross country teams at the 2016 East Coast Conference Championships, hosted by Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester.
The Pioneer women finished fourth at the meet, while the men's team came in sixth.
Williams continued her illustrious season with an East Coast Conference Runner of the Year nod, after capturing a first-place finish. She averaged a 5:43 mile and bested the second-place runner by 27 seconds.
Graduate
Ashlin Conroy (Syosset, N.Y.) garnered All-ECC second-team honors, following a 13th-place run of 19:25.8. Freshman
Nicolette Agostinacchio (Wantagh, N.Y.) came in 32nd, clocking a 20:54.5.
Sophomore
Kaitie Schillaci (Albany, N.Y.) finished the race in 21:18, which was good for 36th place. Freshman
Alexandria Okon (Laurel, Md.) clocked a 42nd-place time of 22:21.8.
The men's team had three runners in the Top-20. Freshman
Jeffrey Reyes (Bay Shore, N.Y.) led the way with an 11th-place showing (27:00.9) in the 8k, earning him All-ECC second-team praise.
Junior
Ryan Gioe (Huntington Station, N.Y.) ran 14th (27:28.6), while senior
Tyler McGarvey (Babylon, N.Y.) was 19th (27:45).
Freshman
Justin Ortega (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and junior
Ibrahim Abubakar (Brentwood, N.Y.) added respective times of 32:53.2 and 37:42.7.
Head Coach
Kevin Buckley and the Pioneers return to action on Saturday, Nov. 5, when they compete at the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional Championships in Hopkinton, N.H.
