WASHINGTON, D.C. (Oct. 22, 2016) - The LIU Post women's tennis team closed out the 2016 regular season Saturday with a 7-2 victory over East Coast Conference foe University of the District of Columbia at the UDC Tennis Courts.
The Pioneers (6-2, 5-2 ECC) won all three doubles matches in the contest. In the No. 1 flight, sophomores
Shanice Arthur (Brookville, N.Y.) and
Stanislava Klymova (Dnipro, Ukraine) pulled out an 8-6 win against Dominika Hadnadova (Sala, Slovakia) and Alena Skobkina (Tarragona, Spain).
Then, in second doubles, sophomore
Lara Scholtze (Bad Homburg, Germany) and freshman
Charlotte Hynes (Weston, Fla.) beat Paula Evellan (Samborondon, Ecuador) and Estefani Castrillon (Bogota, Colombia), 8-6.
Scholtze led off singles play with a 6-3, 7-5 triumph versus Hadnadova at the No. 1 position. Arthur went the distance in a 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 victory against Skobkina at second singles.
In No. 5 singles, senior
Laura Harwell (Alabaster, Ala.) lost only one game in a 6-0, 6-1 straight-set win over Arielle Ward (Springfield, Mass.).

Walter Giacometti and his LIU Post squad have now clinched the No. 3 seed in the East Coast Conference Championship, which will begin next Friday (Oct. 28) at the Queens College Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
