CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Oct. 24, 2016) - For the second-straight week, LIU Post women's tennis sophomore
Lara Scholtze (Bad Homburg, Germany) has been tabbed as the East Coast Conference Player of the Week, it was announced Monday.
Scholtze extended her winning streak at No. 1 singles to six consecutive matches last week, after a pair of straight-set victories. She prevailed 6-4, 6-2 against Queens' Laura Ortega Jover last Tuesday (Oct. 18) and defeated UDC's Dominika Hadnadova, 6-3, 7-5, on Saturday (Oct. 22).
Scholtze also paired up with freshman
Charlotte Hynes (Weston, Fla.) at second doubles for decisive wins over Queens' Araceli Bel and Ortega Jover (8-3) and UDC's Paula Avellan and Estefani Castrillon (8-2).
In 2016, Scholtze currently sports a near-flawless record of 10-1 in singles play. Her only loss thus far came against NYIT's Lena Dimmer in the quarterfinals of the ITA East Region Championships.
Scholtze and the Pioneers have earned the No. 3 seed in the East Coast Conference Championship. They will face either NYIT or Queens in a semifinal match-up Friday (Oct. 28) in Flushing.
