Williams, Reyes Earn Weekly ECC Cross Country Honors

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Oct. 3, 2016) - After solid showings at the LIU Post Invitational, junior Talya Williams (Schenectady, N.Y.) and freshman Jeffrey Reyes (Bay Shore, N.Y.) were individually named the East Coast Conference Cross Country Runner and Rookie of the Week on Monday.

Williams won the 5k in a program-record 17:48.87, shattering her previous school mark (18:11) by 23 seconds. She also beat the second-place runner by 1:27 for the individual title.

Furthermore, it is the third time that Williams has captured top billing in a 5k this season. She ran to winning times at the Monmouth Invitational (18:40.5) and Fordham Fiasco (18:53).

Reyes, who garnered ECC Runner of the Week accolades on Sept. 12, led the green and gold with a fifth-place time of 28:56.69 in the 8k. He averaged a 5:25.7 mile split, en route to a career-best finish.

Williams, Reyes and the Pioneers return to action Friday (Oct. 7), when they compete at the Metropolitan Championships at 2 p.m. at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
