BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 1, 2016) - The LIU Post volleyball team swept East Coast Conference rival New York Institute of Technology, 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-16), on Tuesday at the Pratt Recreation Center.
The win is the Pioneers' (12-12, 5-6 ECC) ninth in their last 11 matches. It also moves the green and gold into a tie for the final ECC Tournament berth with Roberts Wesleyan.
In a first set that featured 12 tied scores, LIU Post earned a hard-fought 25-23 victory. Junior outside/right-side hitter
Danielle Valenza (Hauppauge, N.Y.) provided a pair of kills down the stretch to seal the win.
Leading 16-15 in the second set, the Pioneers pulled away from the Bears (21-5, 7-2 ECC) with a 9-3 run, en route to a 25-18 triumph. Sophomore outside hitter
Rachel Londot (Utica, Ohio) tallied two kills and an ace in the spurt. Freshman setter
Kassie Akouri-Tejedor (North Miami Beach, Fla.) served an ace, as well.
In the third game, LIU Post used a 10-1 burst to build an 18-8 lead and never looked back. Valenza had two kills and a block in the streak. Freshman middle/right-side hitter
Lea Brady (Woodbridge, Va.) added a kill and a block.
The Pioneers eventually went on to claim a 25-16 win on an Akouri-Tejedor kill to secure the sweep.
Valenza collected 13 kills, eight digs and five blocks in the match. Londot totaled eight kills, 14 digs and two aces. Senior middle hitter
Taryn McCullouch (Buena Park, Calif.) contributed seven kills and five blocks. Brady pitched in six kills, three digs and two blocks. Akouri-Tejedor and sophomore setter
Giulia Genna (Rome, Italy) each dished out 16 assists.

Amanda Ostapow and her LIU Post squad are back in action Thursday (Nov. 3), when they travel to Dobbs Ferry to take on ECC foe Mercy College. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
