CHANDLER, Ariz. (Nov. 2, 2016) - On Wednesday, the LIU Post field hockey team had four of its players chosen to participate in the 2016 Victory Sports Tours/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division II Senior Game.
The game will be held on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 3 p.m. at Stonehill College's W.B. Mason Stadium in Easton, Mass.
Senior midfielder
Steph Mocerino (Andover, N.J.), senior forward/midfielder
Melissa Quintanilla (Rome, N.Y.) and senior midfielder/defender
Abi Sawyer (Wakefield, West Yorkshire) were selected as participants, while senior netminder
Ericka Parks (Nesconset, N.Y.) earned a spot as an alternate.
In 2016, Mocerino has helped to anchor a defensive unit that has limited the opposition to the fewest goals (16) in the Northeast-10 Conference. She has added five goals and six assists to rank third on the team with 16 points, as well.
Quintanilla, who has nine points (3 G, 3 A) on the year, has started in 15 of 16 contests for the Pioneers this season. One of her three goals was the game-winner in a 1-0 upset of then-No. 1 East Stroudsburg on Sept. 12.
Despite being just limited to six games this year, Sawyer has had an impressive career for the green and gold. She has tallied one goal and 13 assists for 15 points. Additionally, Sawyer started every game for the Pioneers in each of the last two seasons.
Parks currently boasts a 13-3 record in 2016 with a league-leading 0.95 goals-against average. Her 15 goals allowed are also the fewest in the conference, while her four shutouts are tied for third-most in the league.
