Box Score

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Mar. 24, 2016) - On Thursday, the LIU Post baseball team lost to Molloy College, 5-2, in the team's 2016 East Coast Conference opener at the LIU Post Baseball Field in Brookville.

The Pioneers (8-9, 0-1 ECC) had an opportunity to do some damage in the first inning, after Molloy's (12-6, 1-0 ECC) starting pitcher Ronald Bauer walked the bases loaded with one out. However, LIU Post failed to score.

Both Bauer and Jake DeCarli (Higganum, Conn.) kept the respective offenses off the board, until the Pioneers scored in the fourth. With runners on second and third, freshman left fielder Joe Piscitelli (Levittown, N.Y.) ripped a single to left, scoring juniors Thomas Asbaty (Randolph, N.J.) and Kenny Daley (Glenwood Landing, N.Y.), giving the Pioneers a 2-0 edge.

DeCarli returned to the mound in the fifth and turned aside the Lions, but things changed in the sixth.

With a runner on second and one out, Molloy put together three straight hits that scored two runs. Later in the inning, the Lions took the lead with a run-scoring groundout.

The Molloy bullpen put up a zero in the sixth and seventh, before the offense plated a pair of insurance runs in the eighth. In the ninth, the Pioneers went quietly.

DeCarli went seven innings and was charged with five runs (four earned). The righty allowed 11 hits and struck out three.

Offensively, the Pioneers walked seven times and had four hits, but left nine men on base.

Head Coach Mike Gaffney and the Pioneers return to action on Saturday (Mar. 26), when they resume their four-game set with Molloy with a doubleheader at the Mitchel Field Athletic Complex. First pitch for Game One is set for noon.
