PATCHOGUE, N.Y. (Mar. 26, 2016) - The LIU Post men's and women's outdoor track and field teams combined for six first-place finishes Saturday, as it kicked off the 2016 campaign at the St. Joseph's College Spring Opener in Patchogue.
For the men, junior
Stefan Adams (Jamaica, N.Y.) won the 200- and 400-meter dash, clocking a 22.84 and 50.20, respectively. Red-shirt junior
Mike Scott (Fultonville, N.Y.) bested his opposition in the 800-meter run, posting a time of 1:59.10. Junior
Devin Pettaway (Amityville, N.Y.) ran to a first-place 59.35 in the 400-meter individual hurdles.
In the 4 x 100-meter relay, red-shirt junior
Wayne Harris (Jamaica, N.Y.), red-shirt sophomores
Ramel Joseph (Jamaica, N.Y.) and
Kyle Ward (Elizabeth, N.J.) and red-shirt freshman
Kasim Thomas (Bronx, N.Y.) teamed up to win the race in 43.28.
Harris also finished second in the 100-dash, legging out a time of 11.59, while Thomas and Joseph, who also crossed at a sixth-place 23.67 in the 200-meter dash, individually tied for sixth
(11.88) and eighth place (12.02) in the same event. Ward added a fourth-place mark of 23.31 in the 200-dash.
Freshman
Jermaine Ifill (Flushing, N.Y.) was fifth (53.13) in the 400-dash. Sophomore
Thomas Flynn (Smithtown, N.Y.) and red-shirt senior
Steven Arnone (Staten Island, N.Y.) clocked respective sixth- (2:09.40) and ninth-place (2:12.71) times in the 800-run.
Senior
Elizabeth Stirling (Wantagh, N.Y.) paced the women's side, winning the 1,500-meter run in 5:02.98. Freshman
Kaitie Schillaci (Albany, N.Y.) followed in sixth (5:25.10).
Sophomore
Alyssa McDonald (New Rochelle, N.Y.) recorded a second-place time of 1:13.08 in the 400-hurdles. Fellow sophomore
Nicolette DeSouza (Stroudsburg, Pa.) finished fifth in the 100- (13.79) and 200-meter dash (27.95). Freshman
Charlene Hickey (East Meadow, N.Y.) clocked a 2:36.63 in the 800-meter run, which was good for a seventh-place showing.
The Pioneers return to action next Saturday (Apr. 2), when they travel to Mahwah, N.J. for the Roadrunner Invitational, hosted by Ramapo College at 9 a.m.
