Track & Field Wins Seven Events at ECC Outdoor Championships

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The LIU Post men's & women's track & field teams competed at the East Coast Conference (ECC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships Saturday at Farmingdale State College on a day that saw the Pioneers win seven events, including a sweep of the women's throws.
 
The Pioneers women withstood horrendous weather conditions to have an impressive day, finishing third of eight teams with 115 points. Junior Kaitlyn Klein was honored with the Elite 19 Award at the conclusion of the meet, which is awarded to the student-athlete with the highest GPA.
 
Sophomore Alyssa Farrell continued her outstanding outdoor season as she took first-place in two events. Her throw of 37.90 meters in the javelin earned her first place and set a new ECC Championship record while she also won the hammer throw with a mark of 41.23 meters.
 
Klein also won a pair of events; she finished first in the discus with a throw of 37.90 meters and the shot put after hitting a mark of 11.47 meters. Her throw of 42.12 meters in the hammer throw also saw her finish second.
 
Sophomore Kelly Holownia won the triple jump after a 10.70 meter leap to round out the Pioneer women field event winners.
 
On the track, junior Alexandria Okon took first in the 800 meters after crossing the line in 2:19.97 seconds. Okon then teamed with freshman Maddie DuBose, sophomore Nataly Ramirez and sophomore Jacqueline Ginty to take first place in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:03.68 seconds.
 
The team of sophomore Kathryn Ginty, Okon, junior Nicolette Agostinacchio and Jacqueline Ginty finished second in the 4x100 meter relay in 50.96 while in the 4x800 meter relay LIU Post also took second. The quartet of Agostinacchio, senior Kaitie Schillaci, freshman Margaret McKeever and Okon posted a time of 2:18:00 seconds.
 
Additional scorers for LIU Post's women's included junior Nicole Costanzo in the high jump who finished third after clearing 1.45 meters and McKeever who's time of 12:42.86 seconds in the steeplechase earned a third-place finish.
 
Jacqueline Ginty finished fourth in the 100 meters in 12.89, sophomore Kayra Theodore cleared 1.45 meters in the high jump to finish fifth, Ramirez clocked in at 1:09.13 seconds in the 400 meter hurdles to finish sixth, sophomore Samantha Piccolo finished seventh in the 100 meter hurdles after clocking in at 18.41, sophomore Tatyanna Ogbue's throw of 9.48 meters in the shot put earned a seventh place finish and freshman Nicole Iannuzzi finished seventh in the triple jump after a 9.59 meter leap.
 
The LIU Post men earned 39 points and finished sixth. The team of freshman Ismail Abdullah, sophomore Troy Benson, sophomore Michael Krebs and sophomore Destyn Harding posted a time of 43.79 in the 4x100 meter relay to finished second.
 
Freshman DeAndre Smith cleared 6'2'' in the high jump to finish second, junior Justin Ortega posted a time of 16.64 to finish second in the 110 high hurdles while Harding took third in the 100 meters after clocking in at 11.39.
 
Freshman Robert Skidmore had a strong day in the throws, taking fifth in the shot put (12.19 meters), fifth in the discus (35.48 meters) and sixth in the hammer throw (33.62 meters)
 
Sophomore Andrew Gleave also posted a personal-best time of 17:12.34 seconds in the 5000 meters.
