Box Score LANTANA, Fla. (Mar. 9, 2016) - On Wednesday, the LIU Post baseball team dropped a 12-8 decision to Lynn University at the Santaluces Sports Complex in Lantana.

The two teams traded leads five times throughout the nine-inning affair, with Lynn (11-8) getting the final lead in the sixth inning.

The Pioneers (5-7) got out to a quick start, scoring two first-inning runs.

The Fighting Knights responded with three in their half of the first.

In the second, back-to-back bases-loaded walks from senior first baseman David Groeneveld (Centereach, N.Y.) and junior right fielder Rob Andreoli (North Wantagh, N.Y.) gave the Pioneers a 4-3 advantage.

In the fourth, a Brian Kavanagh (East Meadow, N.Y.) wild pitch allowed the tying run to score.

Then, in the fifth, sophomore designated hitter James Cohan (Syosset, N.Y.) lined a run-scoring single to right. Sophomore shortstop Joe Spitaleri (Levittown, N.Y.) followed with an RBI single of his own, before Groeneveld reached on a fielder's choice that allowed a run to score, making it a 7-4 game in favor of the Pioneers.

From there, Lynn scored eight unanswered runs, before freshman third baseman Jimmy Mendyk (Massapequa, N.Y.) produced a run with an RBI groundout in the ninth.

Kavanagh went five innings, allowed six hits and seven runs (four earned). The righty walked a pair and struck out three in his third appearance. Red-shirt freshman Robert Paccione (Commack, N.Y.) took the loss in his first career appearance. He gave up five earned runs over three innings of work out of the bullpen.

Cohan was the lone Pioneer with a two-hit game. Groeneveld and Andreoli eached had a pair of RBIs. Cohan, Spitaleri and Mendyk accounted for the other LIU Post runs.

Head Coach Mike Gaffney and the Pioneers return to the diamond on Thursday (Mar. 10), when they take on Bloomfield College in the final game of their Spring Break trip. First pitch is slated for 9 a.m.
