BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Jun. 28, 2016) - Last week, LIU Post senior
Elizabeth Stirling (Wantagh, N.Y.) was recognized to the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-America Division II Women's Track and Field/Cross Country Second Team.
Stirling, the lone LIU Post student-athlete to receive CoSIDA Academic All-America praise in the Spring 2016 campaign, became just the second Pioneer in program history to earn Academic All-America status (Anne Fischer - 1987).
Stirling, who owned an unblemished 4.0 grade-point average in her graduate coursework in Biology, capped off a spectacular cross country career with All-East Coast Conference first-team and USTFCCCA All-East Region accolades.
She posted a sixth-place finish of 18:18.05 at the ECC Championships and contributed a 19th-place showing (22:24.03) at the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional Championships. Additionally, Stirling ran the team's sixth-fastest 5k time (18:54.65) at the LIU Post Invitational on Sept. 19 and tied the program's fifth-best mark (19:24.1) for a 5k at Van Cortlandt Park at the ECAC Championships on Nov. 21.
Stirling followed that up with a pair of All-ECC selections at the league's outdoor track and field championships. She won the 5,000-meter run in 18:11.02 to land a spot on the All-ECC First Team and helped the Pioneers' 4 x 800-meter relay to an All-ECC second-team nod with a second-place 10:07.50 clocking.
