Flushing, N.Y. – The LIU Post women's volleyball team earned a 3-1 victory over ECC opponent Queens College inside the Fitzgerald Gym on Tuesday evening.
With the win, the Pioneers improve to 21-3 (7-1 ECC), as the Knights slide to 5-12 (2-6 ECC).
Rachel Londot went for 19 kills, 14 digs, and three aces, and
Kassie Akouri-Tejedor was credited with a team-best 20 assists.
Queens opened the match with a 7-2 run, but it was the Pioneers who took seven of the next nine points to knot the match at 11 apiece. Up 15-14, the Knights went on a 6-0 run to put the hosts up 20-15 before taking the opening frame by a 25-20 score line.
The second frame featured another tightly-contest match and saw the two teams tied 11-11, Queens strung together three-straight points, but the Pioneers answered back with a 12-2 run to take a 23-16 lead before a Londot sealed the 25-18 second-frame victory for the visitors.
LIU Post opened the third frame with a 4-1 run, as the Knights closed their deficit within three (8-5). A pair of 4-0 runs put the Pioneers ahead 19-11 before taking the third set 25-15.
With momentum on their side, the Pioneers started the fourth set with a furious 14-1 run, capped off by a
Lea Brady kill, and proceeded to maintain its torrid pace en route to a 25-9 set and 3-1 match win.
In a match that saw LIU Post collect 54 kills the hosts held advantages in nearly every statistical category including digs (65-50), aces (11-4), and assists (45-29).
