Old Westbury, N.Y. – For the third time in four years senior Talya Williams of the LIU Post women's cross country team earned Individual Champion honors and was named ECC Runner of the Year at the 2017 East Coast Conference Championships hosted by NYIT on Saturday afternoon.
Williams and the women's team earned a fifth-place finish among the nine competing women teams, while the men placed sixth in a field of eight.
Williams' 5k time of 17:44.08 was the second-best in program history as the Schenectady, N.Y. native finished almost a minute quicker than the second place-finisher. Sophomore Nicolette Agostinacchio would go on to earn a 25th-place finish (10:49.23) of her own.
Sophormore Alexandria Okon (37th, 21:28.68), junior Kaitie Schillaci (39th, 21:35.41) and junior Kathryn Elnick (44th, 22:02.75) rounded out the LIU Post top-five.
One the men's side, sophomore Erick Rivera (28:34.32), freshman (28:46.93), and senior Lance Edwards (29:30.55) earned 35th, 36th, and 43rd-place finishes, respectively.
Freshman Andrew Gleave followed with a 45th-place finish (29:40.90) and junior John Dehler checked in 49th (29:54.37).
Both the women's and men's teams return to action on Saturday, November 4th when they participate at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships at Amherst, N.Y. Full meet recap available here at LIUPostPioneers.com following the action.
