Track & Field Has Strong Showing at Seahawk Shootout

Staten Island, NY| On Friday, the LIU Post men's teams impressed in their second competition of the season at the Seahawk Shootout at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.

In a highly competitive 15-team field that included eight Division I schools, the men's track Pioneer squad turned in a very strong performance, scoring in a combined total of 7 events.

In the men's sprints, senior Stefan Adams had the team's best scores with his superb performances in the 300-meter dash and the sprint medley relay.  His mark of 34.35 won second place in the event, and his leadoff 400-meter leg of 48.35 placed his relay teammates in position to score.

Three other outstanding legs sparked the relay team to a second-place finish in 3:31.64.   Senior Ramel Joseph ran a 22.97 split, and freshman Jaelin Hood (Brooklyn, NY) ran 21.84 for the 200-meter legs.  Graduate distance star Paolo Fiore (Brightwaters, NY) then anchored with an outstanding split of 1:58.56 for the 800m.

Posting a strong result in the SMR was the Pioneer team team of freshman Michael Krebs (Islip Terrace, NY) (52.89), freshman Destyn Harding (Bronx, NY) (22.47),  freshman Jahmel Johnson (Spring Valley, NY), (23.28) and senior Lance Edwards (Stratford, CT), (2:11.71).

The team took fourth place overall, finishing in 3:50.66.

Back in the 300m competition, other impressive Pioneer races were run by Hood (36.15), Krebs (36.45), freshman Troy Benson (Plainview, NY) (38.81), and freshman Steve Chambers (Garden City Park) (38.88).

In the 60-meter dash, freshman standouts Johnson and Harding came up big, Johnson with a time of 7.20, placing sixth overall, and Harding winning his heat in a personal-best time of 07.26.

 In jumps competition, sophomore Twary McKenzie (Huntington, NY) starred once again, taking sixth place in the long jump with a leap of 20'5", and third in the triple jump at 42'7".  Freshman Joe Velez (Fresh Meadows, NY) added another fine performance in the Triple, jumping 39'1.25".

 In the mile run, freshman Andrew Gleave (Seaford, NY) turned in a personal-best time of 4:57.13.

 The Pioneers also excelled in the throws competition, placing three times.  Sophomore Evangelos Fradalakis (Patchogue, NY) took third place in the weight throw, heaving 40'9".  In the shot put, sophomore Kurt Lassiter (Clifton, NJ) placed third with a throw of 39'7.25".

 Fradalakis finished right behind, taking fourth place at 39'1".

 Head Coach Kevin Buckley and the Pioneers return to action at the top of 2018, surging into the new year with their next competition at the Wagner Invitational on January 5th, back at the Ocean Breeze Complex.
