Staten Island, NY| On Friday, the LIU Post men's and women's indoor track and field teams kicked off the 2017-18 season on Friday at the Metro Season Opener at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
Both squads posted impressive results, sparked by very strong performances from new freshmen and graduate recruits.
In the 60m Dash, freshman Jahmel Johnson (Spring Valley, NY) impressed, winning his preliminary heat in the stunning time of 7.02 seconds, and placing third overall in the finals with a time of 7.06.
Destyn Harding (Bronx, NY) added a second impressive freshman showing, posting 7.27 and taking ninth overall.
In the 200m Dash, freshman Jaelin Hood (Brooklyn, NY) won his heat decisively and placed fourth with a time of 22.72 seconds.
In the 400m, freshman Michael Krebs (Islip Terrace, NY) won his heat going away, posting a time of 54.23.
In the 60m hurdles, freshman Joseph Velez (Fresh Meadows, NY) notched a personal best time of 8.78 in the prelims, then came back in the finals to take fourth place in :08.88 seconds.
In the 3000m run, new graduate student Paolo Fiore (Brightwaters, NY) placed 3rd in a high-powered race, finishing in under nine minutes with a mark of 8:58.53.
In the 1000m run, sophomore stalwart Jeffrey Reyes took fourth place in 2:39.39.
Competing in a highly accomplished long jump field, LIU Post took sixth and seventh place, respectively, with solid performances from sophomore Twary McKenzie (Huntington, NY) in 6.05m, and freshman Joe Velez in 5.96m.
McKenzie came back in the triple jump to take another sixth place with a leap of 13.03m.
In the shot put competition, sophomore Evangelos Fradalakis (Patchogue, NY) made the finals with a personal best throw of 12.01m.

Kevin Buckley and the Pioneers return to action next Friday, December 8th, when theycompete at the Seahawk Shootout meet at the Ocean Breeze complex.
