BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - The LIU Post women's basketball team rallied in the final minutes of action to defeat Assumption College 67-64 in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at the Pratt Recreation Center. The Pioneers improved to 8-5 on the season, while the Greyhounds fell to 2-8 overall.
After trailing for the majority of the game, victory for the Pioneers came within reach with 5:19 left to play. The Green and Gold tied the game and then claimed the lead for the first since the opening seconds of the contest off free throws from
Naya Williams. LIU Post secured its largest lead of the contest, 55-50, off a 12-0 run finished by four straight points by Sasha Patterson. Despite Assumption's efforts to regain control of the scoreboard, the Pioneers held on for the 67-64 final.
Shannon Doyle led the game with 14 points, while Patterson had 13 points and eight rebounds.
The Pioneers return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 3 on the road against the Lions of Molloy College. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. in Rockville Centre, N.Y.
