BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Mar. 29, 2017) - On Wednesday, the No. 5/5 LIU Post women's lacrosse team extended its winning streak to five games with a 7-5 victory over University of Bridgeport in East Coast Conference action at Knights' Field.

In the opening half, the Pioneers (6-1, 2-0 ECC) tallied five unanswered goals to grab a 5-1 advantage with 8:51 left. Senior attacker Connor Bird (Syosset, N.Y.) and sophomore midfielder Ryan McKinney (Downingtown, Pa.) both had an unassisted goal in the run. Freshman midfielder Alyssa Mallery (Wantagh, N.Y.) ignited the burst with a free-position tally.

Then, in the latter period, Bridgeport (6-2, 0-1 ECC) closed the gap to a two-goal game (6-4), until McKinney answered with a free-position goal at the 7:23 mark to halt the Purple Knights' rally.

McKinney and Mallery finished with two goals and three goals apiece in the win. Mallery also scooped up two draw controls and caused two turnovers in the contest.

Sophomore attacker Morgan Lannig (Syosset, N.Y.) registered a goal and an assist for a two-point day. Freshman attackers Jessica Vigh (Holtsville, N.Y.) and Angela Deren (Greenlawn, N.Y.) each picked up their first collegiate points.

Between the pipes, junior goalieĀ Olivia Kirk (Farmingdale, N.Y.) made six saves for the Pioneers. Freshman cageminder Cheyanne GangelĀ (Oak Ridge, N.J.) stopped seven shots for the Purple Knights.

Head Coach Meghan McNamara and her LIU Post squad close out their six-game road trip Saturday (Apr. 1), when they travel to Washington, D.C. to face ECC opponent University of the District of Columbia at noon.
