WASHINGTON, D.C. (Apr. 1, 2017) - The No. 5/5 LIU Post women's lacrosse team closed out its six-game road trip Saturday with a 16-3 victory against East Coast Conference foe University of the District of Columbia at UDC Field.
The Pioneers (7-1, 3-0 ECC) jumped out to a commanding 11-1 halftime lead and never looked back, en route to earning their sixth-consecutive win.
Sophomore midfielder
Trish Brisotti (Mattituck, N.Y.) scored a team-leading three goals for the visitors in the opening 30 minutes. Sophomore attacker
Mackenzie Hitchcock (Medina, Ohio) and freshman defender
Hannah von Hollen (Severna Park, Md.) added two goals apiece.
Then, in the latter session, the Pioneers opened the half on a five-goal run to extend their lead to 16-1 with 9:34 remaining.
Red-shirt senior attacker
Alexis Newman (Medford Lakes, N.J.) tallied a goal and an assist in the burst. Sophomore midfielder
Ryan McKinney (Downingtown, Pa.) and von Hollen added goals, as well.
The green and gold 12 different players register a point in the win. Senior attacker
Connor Bird (Syosset, N.Y.) led all players with four points (1 G, 3 A) and four draws. Brisotti and von Hollen each finished with three goals, while McKinney had two goals and three draws. Hitchcock chipped in two goals and two ground balls.
Freshman midfielder
Alyssa Mallery (Wantagh, N.Y.) accumulated five ground balls, two draws and one caused turnover. Senior defender
Kelly Backus (Oceanside, N.Y.) racked up two ground balls and one caused turnover. Freshman attacker
Angela Deren (Greenlawn, N.Y.) caused two turnovers, in addition to recording three points (1 G, 2 A).
Between the pipes, junior goalie
Olivia Kirk (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and freshman cageminder
Jill Hummel (East Patchogue, N.Y.) combined to make four saves for LIU Post. Freshman goalie Jada Foy (Orlando, Fla.) turned aside 10 shots for UDC (1-6, 0-4 ECC).
For the contest, the Pioneers owned a 29-11 advantage in shots, a 27-19 edge in ground balls and a 15-6 differential in draw controls. The green and gold were also 6-of-7 (85.7 percent) on clears and 2-of-4 (50.0 percent) on free-position shots.
