BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Mar. 4, 2017) - The No. 4/3 LIU Post women's lacrosse team came up short Saturday in a 10-6 loss to No. 3/4 Le Moyne College in a non-conference showdown at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium in Brookville.

The Pioneers (1-1), who twice led by a goal in the first half, came back from a one-goal deficit to bring a 4-3 advantage into the intermission.

Senior attacker Connor Bird (Syosset, N.Y.) and sophomore attacker Morgan Lannig (Syosset, N.Y.) both scored in the final two minutes of the opening period to put the green and gold in front at the break.

However, the Dolphins (1-0) came on strong in the latter 30-minute session, tallying seven of the first eight goals of the half to rally for the victory.

Bird registered a team-leading three points (2 G, 1 A) in the loss. She also scooped up two ground balls and a pair of draw controls. Senior attacker Stefani Vagelatos (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) contributed a two-point day (1 G, 1 A).

Senior defender Cara Douglas (West Islip, N.Y.) had three draws, two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Fellow senior defender Brianna Gibbons (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) and freshman defender Paige Sherlock (West Islip, N.Y.) each won a pair of ground balls.

Between the pipes, junior goaltender Olivia Kirk (Farmingdale, N.Y.) made six saves for LIU Post. Freshman cageminder Hannah George (Johnson City, N.Y.) turned aside two shots for Le Moyne.

Head Coach Meghan McNamara and the Pioneers return to action Wednesday (Mar. 8), when they host non-conference foe Philadelphia University at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium at 3 p.m.
